The assignment
Under the Employment and Economic Transformation Support Project (PRETE), financed by the World Bank, an economic and strategic study of the glass and packaging sector in Burundi. It will assess the technical feasibility, financial viability and economic relevance of reviving a local glass industry, to serve agri-food value chains and reduce the plastic footprint.
- Diagnostic of the glass ecosystem: existing supply, distribution channels, local and regional value chain
- Current and projected demand for glass packaging from the agricultural and agri-food value chains
- Identification of local raw materials (notably silica sand) and supply logistics
- Comparison of production technologies, capacity sizing, CAPEX and OPEX
- Financial modelling, profitability analysis (NPV, IRR, break-even point) and risk mitigation
- Recommendations on business models (PPP, private sector, joint venture) and implementation roadmap
